HoopUp emerged as a follow up of a Social Engine Project (2004-2008) authored by Urtica art and media research group. Social Engine consisted of Internet based artwork and workshops whose outcomes are now part of HoopUp database.

Social Engine workshops were held at:

  • Department for Educational, Cultural and Social Sciences (group for cultural sciences, course “Moiré”) at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, Germany, April 2008
  • Intermedia Department at Academy of Arts, Novi Sad, Serbia, April 2007
  • Communication Department at Ecole Régionale des Beaux—Arts de Saint—Étienne, France, November 2006

The HoopUp is an online collaborative environment focused on symbolic communication and social impact of the artistic message. Envisioned as self-organized network based on peer cooperation, this hybrid system incorporates the Art-Tool originally created web application and the workshop.
